New year's eve and new year's day

We 3 girls (I say girls but we are all 60 and over - you can but dream) cheekily invited ourselves over to old friends Janice and Heidi for New Year and they kindly made us a chicken barbeque and let us stay the night - how nice are they? They have a beautiful house near Whangarei which they had purpose built - it was stunning

On the way we stopped off at some hot springs to relax and prepare for New Year

We also stopped by at Keri Keri to see where the first white settlers lived and, needless to say, I am still chasing birds around

After breakfast (yes, we got that too) we set off to see the 'big tree' in the Kauri forest

then we carried on to another bay Opononi with more spectacular views

This made me laugh - the Moa is now extinct (thank god!)

Our last night was spent with Andrea's delightful family - we treated them to a take away curry as a thank you for being so kind and welcoming, its been a real privilege to be here. Unfortunately Mara, Andrea's mum, was not very well and had to spend the evening in bed
