Lake Taupo to Wellington

After Rotorua we set off to Lake Taupo which turned out to be incredibly windy - in fact a tree in the town came down

If you get a hole in one from the promenade into one
of these holes you win $10,000. I didn't try - it took me
15 years to get one and that would mean I'd have to
keep going until I was 80 - I don't think Den would
have waited that long

The felled tree

One interesting feature in Taupo (and I can't believe I am saying this) is MacDonalds, They had a real DC10 aeroplane in the play area which you could eat in - amazing!

Our next journey was to Napier - the famous art deco town. Our B&B was on the top of a hill overlooking the sea and incredibly there was a bush fire just opposite which is still burning now as I write - hopefully they have got it under control

The view from my room with bushfire!

Tomorrow we will get up early and do the 5 hour drive to see
Windy in Windy Willington

Did you actually have a McDonalds?? I love Napier...did you see any Tamara de Lempicka artwork. It suits the art deco feel.
